Abstract

The effect of 10,20,30,40 days interval and nil irrigation was studied on
sainfoin for two years in Torogh,Mashhad.Increasing the interval between irrigation from 10 to 20 days decreased the yield by 20 percent, but this reduction was almost 40 percent for longer intervals(e.g.from 20 to 30 days or more).
An interval of 20 days between irrigation seems to he more suitable than a 10— day intervals and for intervals more than 30 days a treatment with nil irrigation
is Justified.
The number of stems per unit area showed a similar trend as dry matter yield. Height of plant, protein content, percent of leaf ,stern and flower in dry matter did not show a constant trend to irrigation intervals but the hieght of plant was much higher for a 10—day intervals than others. When no irrigation was applied, percent
of leaf was much lower and that of stem and flower much higher than other treatments.
