Research findings show that an important part of the country’s research has been done by the Graduate especially M.S. students. In order to increase the quality of these theses, the first step is to recognize factors affecting the quality of research and then try to improve them. This research was carried out on some students of the agricultural college, Tehran University whose grade in their theses was 18.5 or more out of twenty grade points. According to Spearman correlation coefficient’s results, there is a significant relation between the quality of theses and the following factors. 1) The accessibility of scientific references. 2) The student’s ability and acquaintance with research. 3) Student’s being acquainted with research rules and regulations. 4) Thesis committee performing its duties. The results of multiple regressions show that, the student’s ability and acquaintance with research on the one hand, and the thesis committee performing its duties on the other hand affected increasing the quality of M. S. theses most. A comparison of students’ attitudes in the ten educational fields of the college (Krouskalvalis test) indicates that the attitudes are the same regarding thesis content, hut they are significantly different regarding theses structures. Results indicate that the thesis committees should have a more effective junction and make more concrete coordination among advisers, counselors, and students. Also professional counselors should be invited to participate in committees to improve the ability of students in using computers, research and statistical methods, and finally the analysis of data. The acquaintance of students with research regulations and also accessibility to scientific references as well as access to specialists have been other important factors of importance. Introduction of high-level theses at Graduation ceremonies and use of encouragement policies are other recommendations.
