Since the average irrigation efficiency in the country is about 32.5 percent, the best usage of water resources must be considered as the main axis
of agricultural progress. Sprinkle irrigation systems having high application efficiency may be considered to be a safe way in the direction of the best
usage of water resources. In order to reach the above mentioned goal, one has to be certoin about their performance in the field. Irrigation systems mayor
may not be well designed and properly used. The technique for system evaluation described in this study is designed for evaluating actual operation
and management and for determining the potential for more economical and efficient operation. This type of study is necessary in order to provide
direction to management in deciding whether to continue existing practices or to improve them. This study used the SCS procedure for the field performance evaluation of hand-move and wheel- move sprinkler irrigation
systems. In order to carry out this study, eight farms based on climatic condition, management, soil, and irrigation system were selected in khorasan
province of Iran. Each farm was evaluated five times during the irrigation season. Water application systems on four of the selected farms was
hand-move and the other four was wheel-move sprinkler irrigation systems. For the purpose of determining evaluation factors, first the necessary
measurements such as soil. plant and irrigation systems were determined on farm or laboratory. Evaluation parameters such as Christiansen's uniformity
"CU" ,distribution uniformity "DU" . application efficiency of low quarter "AELQ" and potential application efficiency of low quarter "PELQ" ,were
determined. The PELQ values obtained on farms with wheel-move systems in
Mashhad were found to be more than classic systems in Torbat haidarieh region. The reason for that could most probably be the wind condition. The values of PELQ in wheel-move system in Mashhad and Torbat haidarieh were about 58 and 55 percent, respectively. It can be increased up to 65 percent with proper management. The results also showed that during the study period the minimum and maximum values for PELQ were %45 and %65, respectively.
