In order to study the association of morphological characters with each other and with seed yield.and to get better knowlege of the morphological basis of yield variation in soybean. an experiment was conducted at the Research Farm of Agricultural College of the Isfahan University of Technology. located at Lavdrk. Najaf- abad in 1996. The experiment was arranged in three augmented designs with 285 lincs and 5 control varieties. Genotypic and phenotypic correlations had similar trends and in most of the cases had little differences. The number of pods per plant followed hy number of lateral branches had the greatest phenotypic and genotypic correlations with seed yield. The results of stepwise regression analysis indicated that the maximum variation in seed yidd could be attributed to the number of pods per plant. number of seed per pod and 1 OO-seed weight .The results of path analysis also revealed the importance of the direct effects of the three mentioned characters on seed yield. and affirmed the importance of number of pods per plant. The number of lateral branches.days to llowering and maturity. number of nodes pt;r main stem and plant height had a considerable
influence on seed yield variability. through the mentioned components.
