The objective of this reserch was to find the effect of moldboard plowing on displacement and movement of soil to predicted its loss.' The translocation of soil by tillage was determined using Cs137 as a tracer. The rate of slope was 3-11% .IIJl this experiment 8 plots were plowed parallel to slope direction and 8 ones perpendicular to slope direction. Plots were 4 m in
length, 4 m in width and 0..15 m was the plow depth. Each plot was divided into subplots of 3 m length and 0.5 m width. Sampling positons were 0.5 m across to correspond with plot length. Plots were ample taken, 12 samples each using a soil probe. Cs137 (2.7 x 104 Bq) was applied to the surface of the soil. Cs137 activity in soil samples was determined using a gamma ray spectrometer. In this study average soil erbsion was 20.1 tons ha-l . Year-l per once moldboard plowing. This rate of erosion is considerable in reduced soil productivety and fertility. Therefore the best recommended way to plow in slopes of any steepness is across the slope with furrows being turned only upwards.
