The Green Peach aphid (G.P.A) Myzus persicae Sulzer is reported as one of the most important pests of potato.
The studies carried out by researchers show the possibility of resistance of potato to this aphid. It is found that longevityof adults and reproductive performance were significantly reduced on resistant host. The development, longevity and reproductive biology of G.P. A was compared in eight commercial potato cultivars:
Red gold, Yukon gold, Nethed jem, Kennebec, Rose gold, Shepody, Onaway and Norchip.
Vrieties were grown in a green house in 155 mm standard plastic pots filled with peat vermiculite soil. The plants were watered three times a week. After 15 days the grown plants were transfered to a nvironmental chamber set at 20°C and 16:8 light-dark. First instars nymphs were placed on a single leaf of each Varity Eeach leaf was enclosed in a polysyren ring cage (50 mm diameter by 5mm hight). Each experiment was replicated four times. The nymphs were examined at 48—hours intervals over the duration of each study and development, longevity and repeoductive data were recorded. The results showed that, the longevity of adults and reproductive performance were significantly reduced on some varieties (Norchip and Onaway) when compared with the others.
