Abstract

Effect of five irrigation intervals (6,8,lO,12,and 14 days ) and
two methods of irrigation(traditional furrow,5Ocm depth versus modern furrow method with shallow depth)on yield, number of fruits per plant, average fruit weight, percentage of soluble solids, and percent plant loss of Semsuri Cantaloupe of Varamin was studied for three years
In this experiment latin rectangle and split-plot designs with five replications was used. In both methods of irrigation the maximum
yield was obtained for intervals of 6 and 8 days. Effect of interval
and method of irrigation on number of fruits per plant and on average fruit weight was different for different years. Increase in irrigation interval , increased percentage of soluble solids and reduced plant.
loss percentage.
All the characters studied, showed significantly better results
with the traditional method of irrigation in comparison to the modern furrow irrigation.
The results showed that higher yields and improvement in some
of the qualitative characters of the cantaloupe may be obtained by traditional method of irrigation and a 6 or 8-day interval.
