Abstract

In this investigation important economic and productive characteristics of Kordi and Kordi X Merino ( crossbred lambs) lambs were studied and compared. The measured parameters were as follows; (1) Initial and final weight; average daily gain and feed conversion during experimental period , (2) carcass characteristics and (3) concentration, diameter and lenght of the wool fibers. The results obtained in this experiment are summarized as fallows:
A) The difference between the means of intial live weights of Kordi and cross -
bred lambs was not significant, but average final live weight of corss- breds
was higher than that of Kordi lambs, also average daily gain of cross- bred
was (20 g.) higher than that of Kordi lambs (P 1:6.1 and 1:7.3 for cross-breds and Kordi lambs respectively.
B) Means of carcass weight and carcass cut weight except of fat tail weight of
cross-bred lambs were heavier than these parameters for Kordi lambs. The di fference were significant at different levels (P • weight of total fat (fat tail + pericardial+ omental+ mesentric fat+ kidney
fat ) of Kordi lambs was higher than mean weight of total fat of cross-bred
lambs, but the difference was not significant.
C) Mean of wool fiber concentration of Kordi lambs was higher than that of cross—
bred lambs (P < 0,01) .Wool quality (fiber diameter and lenght ) of cross-bred
was better than wool quality of Kordi lambs (P < 0,01).
