This investigation was carried out during the moth flight
period of 1974 and 1975 in Karadj Orchards.In 1974, three apple orchards were selected and one light trap,two pheromone traps
and five bait traps were installed in each orchard. In 1975, four apple orchards were chosen and altogether 4 light traps, 12 water synthetic phermone traps,three sticky synthetic pheror one traps,and five bait traps were used in the selected
orchards.The traps were visited 3 and 2 times a week inl974 and 1975, respectively. The mating status of the females captured in the light and bait traps r.as studied.
The two — years study revealed that:
1- The male and female flight trend in the light and bait traps was the same, but the sex ratio(male to female) in light and bait traps was 3:1 andl:1, respectively.
2- The study of mating status of the females captured in light and bait traps showed that the majority of the females in the light traps were “mated and completely depleted of eggs “and” mated and eggs not deposited” ,however,in the bait traps the
majority were”mated and completely depleted”and “mated and
partially depleted”.
3- The attractiveness of the traps to the moths in the ascendent order is bait,light ,female and sjnthetic
pheromone traps.
4- The water synthetic pheromone traps and light traps were respectively four and seven times stronger attractnat compared to the sticky synthetic pheromone and incandescent type light traps.
5- The first generation flight peak in the pheromone traps occured earlier and the third generation flight peak occured later compared to the peaks in light and bait traps.
6- The flight period in the pheromone traps was longer than the period in light traps.
7- All the traps showed3 generations of flights for the moths.
8— The pheromone traps were the most efficient type considering the attractiveness and the occu-rance of the peak flights.
The sticky synthetic pheromone traps could also be used where the availability of water for the water traps is a question.
9- If the synthetic pheromone caps could not be purchased and electricity is available,the U.V.light traps would serve the purpose.
10- If the only choice is the use of bait traps,the analysis of the data should be in accordance to the points made in this paper.
