In order to evaluate the effects of sowing date on grain yield, it’s component and percentage of protein in green gram, an experiment was carried out for two years in research Station Faculty of Agriculture, Karaj (Iran). Split plot design with 4 replications was used. The main plots were date of sowing with 4 level (15th and 3lth May, 15th June and first of July). The grain gram varieties were Gohar, Parto, Mehr and NCM-1. Characteristics were scored as length of the main stem, number of nodes on main stem, harvest index, biological yield, grain yield and percentage of protein, etc. The effect of sowing date on length of the main stem and percentage of protein were not significant in two years but there were significant effects for other characteristics. In. 15th and 3lth May the maximum harvest index 100 seed weight, biological yield and grain yield were obtained. The varieties were significantly different for all characteristics except length of the main stem. Parto variety had the least harvest index and NCM-1 variety had the least grain yield due to having low grain number and pods per plant. The percentage of protein in Gohar variety was less than the other varieties. NCM-1 and Gohar varieties had more 100 seed weight than the others.
