Abstract

To investigate the behaviour and characteristics of hydraulic jump in trapezidal sections, for evaluartion of technical criterion for design of stilling basins, the tests were conducted on a physical model with a discharge of 3 to 25 lit/sec. The technical factors of trapezoidal sections being considered were secondary depth ratio, headloss , and lenght of Jump for side slopes of 0.5,1,1.5 and 2.
The results of tests showed that the secondary depth ratio is less for trapezoidal sections compared to rectangular sections, and its value decreases by reduction in the side slopes . The head loss in trapezoidal sections is inversly proportional to side slope ,and the jump length increases by reduction in the side slopes.
