Through 1981-1988,in 13 locations in 180 Km radius of west and south west of Isfahan,Maverick yellow water traps were used to determine presence and absence of important aphid vector species of potato viruses, aphid species richness, relative density and seasonal population fluctuation of total alate aphids, and specially the most important potato virus vector,Myzus persicca. Also in some locations relative density of apterate aphids on potato plants were investigated for one year.
In all study stations,M.Persicae,Aphis gossypi and .4cyrtosyphon pisum reported vectors of potato virus Y,the most important potato virus in the area were present.
There was differences in species richness and density in different study locations. In locations Such as Konark(in vicinity of Daran) and Ferydon shahr, lowest species richness and density was observed and these areas are Primarily introduced as suitable places for seed potato production, However further studies is recommended. Other locations are divided to intermediate and unsuitable areas. In intermediated areas usually higher aphid density was observed late through the season. In unsuitable areas a high species richness and aphid density was Persent through the season. Also apterate aphid population was low in suitable recommend area. These informations are discussed in relation to abundance of overwintering host plant of M.Percicae in different areas and further recommendations is made for seed potato production and future research.
