Despite decades of fishery development programme. the traditional fishermen still live on the subsistance level in the South of Iran. while, the existence of potential resources in the country could enable us to increase the profitability of fishery.
The purpose of this study is to examine the level of economic efficiency in fishery industry and to identify those factors which could increase profit
Economic efticency of fishermen was obitaned from an estimated profit function. The results of analysis indicate that the mean economic efficiency of fishermen was 52%. The results also show that the loss of profit in Bandar Langeh region (with 546 motorboats) was about 10 billion Rials pet ‘ear. The socio economic and institutional factor have significant impact On profit loss. An understanding of these constraints may contribute to design an improved programme to increase the profitability of fishery
