This experiment WaS conducted to study accumulation of anions and cations in salt sensitive and tolerant populations of sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia Scop.). When seedlings of Zanjan (salt tolerant) and Sabzevar (salt sensitive) populations were transferred to saline (NaCl) medium, the sodiumand magnesium content of shoots increased gradually. Potassium upake decreased gradually but it accumulated in shoot with time. Accumulation of calcium and sulfate occurred more in shoots than did in roots. The concent ration of ions including chloride was more in salt tolerant population, Zanjan, •than was in salt sensitive population, Sabzevar.
