In measuring the hydraulic conductivity (K) of soil layers for design criteria to be used in irrigation and drainage projects, the auger hole and shallow-well- pump methods did not give similar results. This was valid even in a uniform layer of a soil.
The difference comes from the physical conditions of soil layers, hydraulics of water flow in the soil, quality of the water, and the techniques of measuring the hydraulic conductivity.
To remedy the situation and to unify the outcomes, the results were adjusted (manipulated). The collected field data for both methods were compared and correlated with each other, and an equation was derived, by which the data related to one method could be converted to another method.
