The Sorghum borer, Sesamia cretica Led, is an important pest of corn and soghum and in some years it causes nearly 100 percent damage in VARAMINE region.It overwinters as larvae of different instars in corn stalk and stems of creation weed grasses.
All stages of development can be seen any time of growing season. It has two complete and one incomplete generation each year.
Winter plowing and floating are experienced for reducing show, differences in extent of damage. The extend of damage in different larval stages is investigated on corn and sorghum.
The variety ZP 790, has been found to be most resistance to this pest.
