Different materials have been proposed for stabilization of dispersive soils , such as two or three - valet salts , asphalt products and resins . In this research program , usage of Portland cement for stabilization of dispersive soils , in stead of asphalt emulsion has been investigated . For such comparison , the optimum percentage of each material has been determined using standard compaction molds, and specimens were tested after 7 and 28 days curing . The tests performed are: compression test at dry and saturated conditions, durability after cycles of freezing and thawing ,promeabilitly test ,and erodibility test against flowing water.
The test results showed that fine grained dispersive clayey and silty clay soils can be stabilized by using S to 10 percent Portland cement . The durability of such stabilized dispersive soil is much better than the one with asphalt emulsion and its erodibility against a water flow with a velocity of 2 m/sec .,is negligible . Thus , such a material can be used for lining of irrigation canals and protection of river banks or earth reservoires.
