Twenty tomato cultivars(Iycopersicon esculentum Mill)
were tested to determine their peel ,pulp, seed and vitamine C contents. Tomato seeds were planted in boxes in a greenhouse
early in April .At 4 leaf stage, the seedlings were transplanted in the field .The vitamine C contents of tomatoes were measured
in green and ripe stages. The measurements of percent pulp, peel, and seed were made only in ripe fruits. The highest vitamine C
content was found in Mich- Tenny NO.1 wit.h 44 mg pr 100 G of fresh fruit. The vitamine C content increased as fruit reached maturity.
Except in droplet cultivar ,the highest vitamine C content was
present in the cultivars with the lowest amount of peel. The Roma cultivar with 94 g of pulp per 100 g of fresh fruit was ranked
the highest as compared to other cultivars. Red clove with 0.7
and 0.1 percent of fresh fruit had the highest and the lowest seed content respectively.
