To determinate ammonium requirement of greenhouse tomato (Lycopersicon lycopersicum cv. HAMRA), the effectiveness of five nutrient solutions and six cultural media on quantity and quality characteristics of greenhouse tomato cv. Hamra in hydroponics system was evaluated. The main difference among nutrient solutions was nitrogen type and ammonium nitrogen to total nitrogen (NH4+/NH4++NO3-) ratio. Coïc nutrient solution was used as control. Data compound analysis results in two different seasons indicated that increasing N-NH4+ caused a decrease in fruit yield, vitamin C content, titrable acidity, total soluble solids, and fruit and leaf dry matter. Maximum yield was observed in control as well as S2 solution (the one without N-NH4+) while maximum vitamin C was observed in solution, containing 0.1 meq N-NH4+. The effect of either, soil medium or media containing soil on quantity and quality characteristics of tomato was observed to be significant.
