Abstract

The amounts of 10, 20, 30 grN/m2 as a Urea form and three planting dates: May13, May23
and June 3 were applied to produce Gladiolus cv Oscar and study the effects on some qualitative
characteristics of the flower. The results showed that the first planting date (May 13) had the
highest flower fresh weight as well as non opened flower percentage. The longest spike and the
highest flower number per spike were observed in the second planting date (May 23). The
highest TSS, semi opened flower, vase life of flower and florets were observed in planting date
(June 3) but with no significant effect on opened flower percentage. Nitrogen level (amount) of
20 gr/m2 caused an increase in flower fresh weight, TSS, and flower and floret vase life but no
significant effect on other qualitative characteristics.
