In order to determine relationships between morphological traits as well as to determine the most important characters affecting seed yield in white and black chickpea, two separate field experiments were conducted in 2002 at the Experimental Station of Agricultural College of Tehran University. The entries were planted in rows of 3m length with 0.5m space between rows. Two white and two black chickpea varieties were planted after every 10 rows as a check in white and black chickpea experiments respectively. The studied characters were: total seed yield, plant height, number of secondary branches, number of pods, number of seeds per plant, 100 seed weight and number of total seeds. The results of simple correlation, stepwise regression and path analysis in either experiment showed the 100 seed weight and number of total seeds had the greatest effect on seed yield, respectively.
