The present paper, contains the results of a research work conducted for evaluation of earth canal lininq treated with Sodusn Carbonate and Asphalt Cement Emulsion. Several earth canals were ccnstructed with a constant triangular cross—section, and the rate of seepage aS weLl as relative resistance to erosion was measured,Four types of linings employed were: natural soil (uncompacted), compacted natural soil, compacted natural soil treated with Sodium Carbonate, and compacted natural soil treated with Na Co and asphalt cement emulstion, Rate of seepage and its quantity was measure3 using ponding method;. and erodibility wes controlled using a water jet of constant velocity. Several. specinens were -also made in the laboratory to control erodibility.
The results showed that compacted soil treated with Na2Co3 reduces the seepage loss by 95% and using asphalt-cement emulsion or portland cement can reduce erodibility of the lining to an acceptable amount. ccording to the results of chemical analysis of water at the end oi each rrc-, the quality was acceptable. For further investigation on erodibility, sons loboratory zets were conducted on different specimens made by cement-tread soil, and considering the results, further investigation on the subject was recommended.
